1,000 Teachers Will Attend International Quality National Congress

The Sampoerna Foundation Teacher Institute (SF TI) in cooperation with the Department of National Education (Departemen Pendidikan Nasional: Depdiknas) and other partners will hold the Indonesian Teachers Congress (Kongress Guru Indonesia: KGI) on November 27-28, 2008. This two-day international quality congress for Indonesian teachers with the theme “Think Global, Act Local”, held in connection with the commemoration of National Teachers Day, will be attended by more than 1,000 teachers from throughout Indonesia. The congress was formally launched to the public by the PMPTK Director General of Depdiknas, Dr. Baedowhi M.Si., and the Director of SF TI, Kenneth Cock, at SF TI in Jakarta, October 21, 2008.

Leadership Development Programme

Designed for principals and aspiring principals to develop the necessary skills to run a successful school, Sampoerna Foundation Teacher Insitute invites school leadership teams to participate in the Leadership Development Programme. This programme is made up of ten days of workshops over a 5 month period.

  • Each team will develop­, as part of the programme, a school development plan for their own school.
  • To successfully complete the programme, participants will demonstrate how they have implemented the school development plan.

SF TI Launches Teacher Education Programme Print E-mail

A one-year study programme, targeted for Sarjana or bachelor’s degree holders who aspire to be a teacher or in-service teachers, was successfully launched by SF TI on Saturday, May 31, 2008. The programme, titled Teacher Education Programme (TEP), also offers scholarships for motivated and highly qualified individuals. The launch was attended by more than 80 people, which comprised of teachers from around Jakarta area, interested non-teacher participants, and journalists, who interactively participated in the programme explanation lead by Riris Lumban Tobing, Head of TEP. In conjunction with the programme, Director of SF TI, Kenneth J. Cock, delivered a presentation titled, “Becoming a Teacher”, while Eileen Rachman, human resource consultant, Director of EXPERD, presented “Building Professionalism in Teaching Career”.

SF TI Will Launch Teacher Education Programme Print E-mail

Sarjana or bachelor’s degree holders who do not have the background in pedagogy and education, yet have the interest to become teachers, and in-service teachers, now have the chance to fulfill their dreams. Sampoerna Foundation Teacher Institute (SF TI) invites bachelor’s degree holders and teachers to join Teacher Education Programme (TEP), an intensive one-year study programme, leading to the awarding of the Teacher Education Certificate, an informal award of the SF TI. This programme, which also offers scholarships for outstanding and highly motivated individuals, will be launched on Saturday, May 31, 2008, with presentations by two experts in education and professional development, Kenneth J. Cock, director of SF TI, and Eileen Rachman, a well-known human resource consultant and Director of Executive Performance Development (EXPERD).

Principal & Teacher Professional Development Programme by BHP Billiton and SF TI Print E-mail

Sampoerna Foundation Teacher Institute and BHP Billiton initiated a programme to improve the quality of teachers and principals in parts of Central Kalimantan province. The programme, called Principal and Teacher Professional Development Programme, entered its third workshop on May 31-June 1, 2008, at SMAN 1 Muara Laung. Four teachers and seven principals as well as vice principals took part in this workshop which was facilitated by two SF TI’s facilitators, Raymond Setiawan and Marc Alexander.

Nurturing Our Young People: The Issues Facing Families and Schools Print E-mail

Sampoerna Foundation Teacher Institute (SF TI) will hold two-day seminar and workshops titled, “Nurturing Our Young People: The Issues Facing Families and Schools,” on May 6 and 7, 2008, in Jakarta. Invited to be facilitators of the programme are two international professors from the United States, co-authors of textbook “Teaching Students with Mild and Moderate Disabilities: Research-Based Practices” and experts in childhood and special education: Prof. Dr. Libby Cohen, Professor Emerita of the University of Southern Maine and Prof. Dr. Loraine Spenciner, professor of Early Childhood Special Education at University of Maine at Farmington.

Master Teacher Programme Phase II Print E-mail

February 2008 was an active period for the Master Teacher (MT) Programme, which is developed by SF TI in collaboration with education offices in Bangka-Belitung, Bali, and DKI Jakarta and the School of Education from Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Perth, Australia. The premise of this Master Teacher Programme is to develop 18 master teachers and 6 master school leaders who, after the programme, will share their knowledge with a greater number of teachers creating a cascading effect, allowing more teachers to be better equipped in educating their students.

Public Workshop Print E-mail

The Sampoerna Foundation Teacher Institute (SF TI) had successfully delivered 13 workshops aiming to improve teachers’ professionalism by enriching their knowledge and skill. These workshops were attended by more than a total of 136 dedicated teachers and principals of all levels of education, team leaders, members of e-learning department and KPK (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi). The variety of topics that were discussed covered the areas of leadership, language teaching, fundamental teaching skills, education physiology for counseling teacher, early childhood teaching, and SF TI’s own PAIKEM methods.
