Principal & Teacher Professional Development Programme by BHP Billiton and SF TI Cetak halaman ini Kirim halaman ini ke teman via E-mail

Sampoerna Foundation Teacher Institute and BHP Billiton initiated a programme to improve the quality of teachers and principals in parts of Central Kalimantan province. The programme, called Principal and Teacher Professional Development Programme, entered its third workshop on May 31-June 1, 2008, at SMAN 1 Muara Laung. Four teachers and seven principals as well as vice principals took part in this workshop which was facilitated by two SF TI’s facilitators, Raymond Setiawan and Marc Alexander.

Sampoerna Foundation Teacher Institute (SF TI) akan menyelenggarakan seminar dan workshop yang berjudul “Nurturing Our Young People: The Issues Facing Families and Schools” pada tanggal 6 dan 7 Mei 2008 di Jakarta. Untuk menjadi fasilitator, SF TI mengundang dua professor ahli di bidang pendidikan anak dan pendidikan khusus dari Amerika Serikat yang juga penulis buku “Teaching Students with Mild and Moderate Disabilities: Research-Based Practices,” yaitu Prof. Dr. Libby Cohen, Professor Emerita dari University of Southern Maine dan Prof. Dr. Loraine Spenciner, professor di bidang pendidikan anak usia dini dan pendidikan khusus dari University of Maine at Farmington.

February 2008 was an active period for the Master Teacher (MT) Programme, which is developed by SF TI in collaboration with education offices in Bangka-Belitung, Bali, and DKI Jakarta and the School of Education from Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Perth, Australia. The premise of this Master Teacher Programme is to develop 18 master teachers and 6 master school leaders who, after the programme, will share their knowledge with a greater number of teachers creating a cascading effect, allowing more teachers to be better equipped in educating their students.

The Sampoerna Foundation Teacher Institute (SF TI) had successfully delivered 13 workshops aiming to improve teachers’ professionalism by enriching their knowledge and skill. These workshops were attended by more than a total of 136 dedicated teachers and principals of all levels of education, team leaders, members of e-learning department and KPK (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi). The variety of topics that were discussed covered the areas of leadership, language teaching, fundamental teaching skills, education physiology for counseling teacher, early childhood teaching, and SF TI’s own PAIKEM methods.

A programme that facilitates educators to discuss current education trends and issues titled Educator Sharing Network (ESN) were continued in 2008. Three sessions of TPSN, a free-of-charge and –most of the time– fully booked workshop which invites around 30 educators, took place on pre-determined Friday afternoons for two hours at SF TI Campus, Sampoerna Strategic Square, Jakarta. Until the end of March 2008, SF TI has successfully hosted 20 TPSN sessions in total. As an addition to SF TI’s own facilitators, Dewi Susanti, a lecturer and facilitator for creative thinking workshops, was also invited to lead a session in March.

Other activities conducted in the first trimester of 2008 by SF TI include several educational needs assessments supported by Total E&P Indonesie and Bosowa Coorporation, school consultancies, professional development programme for principals supported by BHP Billiton and CITIC-Seram, participation in various education seminars, and discussion on education standards or programme development.

080306_dbs_adoptDBS Indonesia has supported 100 teachers from 6 schools in Jakarta to participate in a developmental program on professional development at the SF Teacher Institute (SF TI). The Adopt A Teacher Program exposed teachers from SMPN 181, SMPN 70, SMPN 261, SMPN 273, SMPN 112 and SMPN 38 Jakarta to a different method of classroom teaching, while having the opportunity to share their experiences with other participating teachers as well as facilitating SF TI instructors. They will be able to share their knowledge as well as enhance their teaching skills.

 

The 1st batch of this teacher training program, which was divided into five weekly sessions, was successfully completed in the period of 26 January 2008 - 23 February 2008. The teachers gained knowledge in Paradigm Shift, Classroom Management & Student Behavior Management, Curriculum Development, Lesson Planning, Developing New Teaching Techniques, Assessment of Student Work, Developing Teaching Aids, Developing Resources for the Classroom, Project Design and Presentation.

riris l.tobing ph.dHead of R&D SFTI, Riris Lumban Tobing PhD gave a presentation in the Annual Science Education Conference, Liverpool, North West England. Her presentation was titled “The Features of Science Education in Indonesia.” The topic sparked off interests from the audience members. They were mostly interested in knowing the curricula characteristics and science learning methods in elementary schools (SD) in Indonesia.

kgi2007More than one thousand teachers from all around Indonesia gathered at Balai Kartini Jakarta for the Indonesian Teachers Conference (KGI) on November 27-28, 2007. The kindergarten through senior high school teachers came together for the conference themed “Better Community through Better Education”. This event was opened on November 27, 2007 by Giri Suryatmana, Secretary to the Director General for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel that read the official speech of the Minister of National Education at Balai Kartini, Jakarta.
