Course Description
This 5 day course will highlight underlying principles and current theories in the teaching of English. Methods and techniques for integrating the four language skill (listening, speaking, reading and writing) plus grammar instruction will be introduced. Suggestions for the use of information technology and relevant websites will be included as appropriate. We will discuss techniques for the following
• Getting students to write
• Motivating students to read
• Improving students’ oral and aural skills
Sessions will be interactive, with discussions and reflections on the teaching and learning process. Demonstrations of lessons will include participation and use of multi-media (video and audio) when suitable. Materials provided will include summaries of activities and lesson plans.
Course Objectives
• Become familiar with and apply principles of integrated language learning in the classroom
• Increase awareness of teaching and learning materials available on the Internet and how they
enhance the learning of English.
• Become aware of authentic sources of English and how they can be used to increase student
comprehension.
