Course Description
To meet the challenges of the new millennium, educators need to incorporate real-world problems, higher-order thinking skills, multidisciplinary learning, independent learning, information mining, and teamwork and communication skills into their curriculum. This module provides participants to use these problem-based learning approaches to instill curiosity, inquiry, self-directed learning and collaborative learning among learners as well as to design simple ill-structured real-world problems. Participants will learn to acquire a better understanding of coaching and facilitation techniques and assessment of problem-based learning projects.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, participants will be able to
• Understand the what and why of problem-based learning;
• Identify the problem-based learning processes;
• Use KND for identifying and analyzing the ill-structured problem;
• Ability to identify learning issues;
• Ability to consider multiple perspectives in considering solutions to the problem
• Demonstrate ability to use facilitation techniques in the classroom;
• Design simple ill-structured problems for problem-based learning;
• Provide rubrics for assessment.
