Course Description

This course aims to keep participants updated about the latest developments in the teaching of primary mathematics. The course focuses on a teaching model that emphasizes on skill and concept acquisition, consolidation and application. Assessment which is an integral component of the teaching process is also dealt with. Selected content area such as fractions, mensuration (area and perimeter), geometry and algebra will be used for illustrations.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to: • Develop a progressive view of teaching and learning of mathematics • earn principles and practice of helping primary pupils acquire skills and concepts • learn principles and practice of helping primary pupils consolidate skills and concepts • learn principles and practice of helping primary pupils solve problems • learn basic principles in assessment in primary mathematics
