Course Description
This 5–day course for primary school teachers will highlight underlying principles and current theories in the teaching of English. Methods and techniques for integrating the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and the teaching of grammar in an integrated manner will be introduced. Participants will also learn how to teach language for literary reasoning and expression so as to encourage children’s critical and creative thinking. Suggestions for the use of information technology and relevant websites will be included as appropriate.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, participants will be able to
• teach the four skills in an effective and creative manner
• integrate grammar teaching within the main approaches of the teaching of reading and writing.
• exploit text types in English lessons
• become aware of authentic sources of English and how they can be sued to increase student
comprehension.
• increase awareness of teaching and learning materials available on the internet and how they
enhance the learning of English.
• become aware of new trends in teaching such as multiple-intelligence and multimodal texts.
